How does it work?
Counselling & Psychotherapy offer you an opportunity to explore yourself and your life with a professional therapist. This exploration may involve reflecting on your past expereinces and how they have affected your responses to current situations. Your therapist will assist you to identify what changes you can make in your life that will reduce any distress and unease you feel. Depending on how much you share the counsellor will support and assist you to develop new strategies for dealing with the difficulties you face.
The therapy will take place in a private setting so that you are able to share your concerns in confidence. Everything that you discuss with your therapist is confidential, in accordance with the codes of ethics of their professional organisation. I your first session, the therapist will explain the process and together you will attempt to set your goals for counselling. As well as clarifying what areas you want to cover, details of how often you will meet and fees etc will be discussed. Each therapy session lasts for 50 minutes, normally at the same time each week.
The success of counselling depends on how much you are prepared to share with the therapist. Most clients feel that purely by talking about their fears and anxiety, it helps them see it in a more manageable way. Therapy is always at your pace and can be halted by you at any time. At all times in the process you, the client, are in total control.
